Mommy Makeover Surgery

Nowadays, many mothers want their bodies looked the same way they did before their first pregnancies. Mommy Makeover Surgery is a combination of various plastic surgery procedures done to improve a woman’s body after pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing.
After one or serial pregnancies and multiple births features of mother’s anatomy may be permanently changed. Under hormonal influence, breast volume engorges during pregnancy. Abdominal skin and soft tissue stretch to accommodate the growing baby. These changes don’t completely reverse after childbirth and nursing. Fat accumulated during pregnancy may stubbornly persist.
If weight gained during pregnancy is completely lost after giving birth, stretched skin may loosen and sag.Sagging breasts and loose protruding stomach muscles are resistant to springing back after the child is born, even with diet and exercises.
Herniation of the umbilicus and separation of midline muscles with protrusion of belly are other common changes. There may be permanent stretch marks. Caesarian section or episiotomy may also have further damage. Vaginal delivery may irreversibly relax the pelvic floor.
After childbirth return to a youthful feminine shape happens naturally for some women, but never happens for many others. “Mommy makeover” is a popular term describing the surgical procedures to improve the woman’s figure after pregnancy related unwanted changes. The “makeover” can be dramatic!
Most common makeover combinations demanded by the patients include breast augmentation and/or breast lift, tummy tuck and liposuction. Facial rejuvenation, arm & thigh lift, vaginal tightening and other body area surgeries may also be included as per needs & demands of the patient.

Vaginoplasty Surgery (Vaginal Tightening) :
Most often, women who have undergone multiple childbirth (vaginal deliveries) experience looser vaginal muscles due to natural stretching of the birth canal. Such women want to regain strength & tone in these vaginal tissue and muscle sphincter for better sexual pleasure & self esteem. Vaginoplasty involves vaginal sphincter tightening & narrowing with tightening of the vaginal mucosal lining, surrounding tissue and muscles. This restores the vagina to a pre-pregnancy state. Scarring, if any, is inside the vagina. This procedure will help to improve sexual pleasure of both the partners.

Q: Is the Mommy Makeover done all at one time?
A: It can be done in one or two stages, depending on how many areas need to be addressed.
Q: What are the different options for a Mommy Makeover?
A: It is some combination of two or three procedures amongst the following: breast lift, with or without augmentation; breast reduction ; abdominoplasty or a tummy tuck; mini-abdominoplasty mini tummy tuck; and liposuction.
Q: What happens during the Mommy Makeover surgery?
A: The breasts are lifted. If there is volume loss from pregnancy and breast feeding, this can be corrected with the addition of a breast implant. Alternatively, if the breasts are excessively large and causing discomfort, the size may be reduced. In an abdominoplasty, the abdominal muscles are tightened to strengthen the midsection and narrow the waist. Lastly, the excess lower abdominal skin with stretch marks is removed.

Q: Can I have more kids after my Mommy Makeover?
A: If more children are planned in the near future, it is better to wait, especially on the abdominoplasty. Additional pregnancies are possible following abdominoplasty. However, the final result may not be as good if the tissues are stretched again with another pregnancy.
Q: Will a caesarean section or hysterectomy affect Mommy Makeover results?
A: No, the incision for the abdominoplasty is at the same level on the lower abdomen. Some women have bothersome extra skin that hangs over their caesarean section or hysterectomy incision. An abdominoplasty can remove this scar and skin in order to smooth the contour.
Q: I have a hernia. Can an abdominoplasty be done at the same time as the hernia repair?
A: Hernias at the belly button are very common in women who have had multiple pregnancies or twin/triplet pregnancies. These hernias can be addressed.
Q: Where are the incisions?
A: The incisions will depend upon the procedures chosen and the techniques utilized by your surgeon. In general, for a breast lift, there is a circular incision around the areola which is carried straight down toward the fold under the breast. It is sometimes called a “lollipop” scar, as this is the shape. Placement of an implant (augmentation) can be done through this same incision if needed.
For the abdominoplasty, there is a linear incision from hip bone to hip bone which can be hidden under the bikini line. Depending on the type of abdominoplasty, there may or may not be a circular scar around the belly button, as well.
Q: How fast is recovery, and when can I pick up my baby again?
A: Limitation may vary. Tummy tuck patients can start walking after discharge from hospital. She can pick up baby a few weeks after surgery. They can drive usually 1 week after surgery, and they can pick up their baby a few weeks after surgery. They can return to the gym to exercise and do heavy lifting in 5-6 weeks.
Breast lift and implant patients can walk also when they get home and they can resume lifting their baby and exercise at 4 weeks.
Q: What makes a mommy tummy tuck different than one for a person who was not pregnant?
A: In women who have had children, the muscles have more of a tendency to separate in the midline (rectus diastasis) compared to those who have never been pregnant. This creates a tendency to form a bulge in the middle of the abdomen upon straining. Also there are more stretch marks, and both of these things are the focus of repair when performing a “mommy tummy tuck.”
Q: How soon do you recommend plastic surgery after delivery?
A: Women need to wait at least 6 months after delivery before having any plastic surgery of the abdomen or breast. This allows for retained fluid to go away and the hormone levels to decrease to normal, which gives a more predictable and safer cosmetic result.
Q: Are women able to breast feed after a breast lift?
A: As with breast reductions, at least 50% of women should be able to breast feed after a breast lift. There are many techniques available to perform a lift, and the ability to retain sensation to the nipple and to breast feed depends upon the amount of breast tissue left attached to the nipple/areolar complex when moving the nipple to its new position.
Tummy tucks, breast augmentations and breast lifts after childbirth are becoming more popular. Requests for mommy makeovers are rising faster than for other cosmetic procedures.
Women who have a Mommy Makeover often say their new and
improved body not only enhances their looks, but also their attitude.
